Groups, Workshops, and Classes
Group counseling is a powerful venue for growth and change. Students receive tremendous understanding, support, and encouragement from others facing similar issues. Participants often gain different perspectives, ideas, and viewpoints.
Students are often faced with issues and concerns that lead them to feel alone and misunderstood. The Personal Growth and Counseling Center offers support groups and classes that allow students to openly discuss their issues, share feelings, engage in creative problem solving, and gain support.
While it is normal to feel apprehensive about joining a group, most students report that the experience was helpful and far beyond their expectations. The PGCC offers a variety of groups for students, and group participation is often the treatment of choice for many issues. Groups offer unique opportunities to experience a type of treatment that cannot be found in many other settings.
Groups are confidential, structured and supportive, and offered at no cost to students!

Tuesdays: Women's Group
The Personal Growth and Counseling Center offers an ongoing weekly Women's Group that provides a safe and confidential enviornment to explore issues such as stress management, anxiety, depression, relationships, body image, bereavement, and other topics of the group's choice.
Women's Group meets Tuesdays during the semester.
Wednesdays: Yoga, Art & Meditation
Yoga Art and Meditation (or "YAMs") provides students with a safe space to promote self-awareness and stress reducing through Yoga, Meditation, and ART!
YAMs meets Wednesdays during the semester.
Thursdays: Out of the Blues - Anxiety and Depression Group
Out of the Blues is a Depression and Anxiety Management Group that is provided in two series of six sessions. This psychoeducational group helps students manage anxiety and depression, create healthy coping skills, and increase self-awareness.
Out of the Blues meets Thursdays during the semester.

Workshops are offered to help promote personal development, help students develop coping skills, and talk about a shared challenges (or experiences):
Meditation for Daily Living
Meditation for Daily Living is a four-part meditation workshop series designed for busy college students. Students will explore a unique variety of meditation techniques, chosen specifically for busy college students. The goal is to provide simple, creative, and technologically-savvy ways for students to incorporate a mediation practice into their daily living.
Meditation for Daily LIving meets Wednesdays during the semester.
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer - 3 simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. People trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Attend a 90 minute QPR training and be a certified QPR gatekeeper.
First in My Family
First in My Family is a series of workshops for first generation college students to support a healthy adjustment to University life at CSUMB.
First in my Family meets on several dates and addresses the following topics:

Mental Health First Aid is an interactive course designed to reduce stigma and increase early intervention. Upon completion of the 8-hour course, participants will establish skills to assess and intervene in crisis situations pertaining to anxiety, depression, suicide, substance abuse and psychosis.
