Epiphany Lutheran & Episcopal Church and Rainbow Speakers presents "Out of the Box" and" Love Free or Die"
On Monday May 13, 2013 at 7:00 pm, Epiphany and Rainbow Speakers present two short power documentaries. Followed by a short Q&A
"OUT OF THE BOX" - This powerful story of six transgender persons is probably one of the best short films on educating people of the powerful journey that transgender people have traveled, in order to be the full person they live today. They share a story of rejection, strength, healing, heart and spirit, which connects with everyone. The film does have a dramatic twist in the way each person comes to tell their story.
"LOVE FREE OR DIE" (Special Jury Prize winner Sundance 2012) - Our current culture sees being LGBT and Christians as a contradiction. Often, LGBT Christian fine themselves being on the outside and shunned by both groups. Now, what would happen if a national church leader came out as Gay Not apologizing to the world, but fully embracing his sexuality and partner. And what if the church embraced him back? And LGBT Community?
Gene Robinson becomes the first openly gay person to be elected bishop in the high church traditions of Christendom. Bishop Robinson s elevation in the sleepy New Hampshire diocese in 2003 ignited a worldwide firestorm in the Anglican Communion, one that has become so heated that there is still a chance of a schism in the 80 million-member denomination. One year after being muzzled by the Archbishop of Canterbury, he finds himself speaking from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial at Barack Obama s Inauguration. Gene Robinson confronts those who use religion as an instrument of oppression, and claims a place in the church and society, not just for LGBT people, but for all.
